In 2019, The American School in Japan shifted to a new strategic vision for the school and its learning. It needed a new document to show what made the school unique, and what drives learning and inspires teachers at the school.
To create a publication that could be used to showcase the school and explain the concepts behind the school’s style of teaching.
As this was a new document bringing the school into a new direction, our team decided it was important for this document to look different from previous school publications.
Previous publications solely used Avenir as the typeface, but to add contrast and as a nod to the school’s history of over 115 years, we added a serif typeface, Abril Fatface. Abril Fatface was chosen as the school also relied heavily on Google Docs for communication, and required a typeface that could be used in both print and Google Docs.
The document was handed out at the event revealing the new direction and was met with praise from members of the community.
